Since 2022, for each edition of Field Recordings, we have commissioned a new work by an artist, which is then presented at the festival. These commissioned pieces may be completed works or works in progress, allowing for their premiere and continued development to be presented.
As Field Recordings is organised by filmmakers themselves (Hryniuk & Leyendekker), one of our goals is to support creative practices in manifold ways. For every edition, we commission a new work by an artist, which then premieres at the event. In the past we commissioned a short film Repetitions by Morgan Quaintance (2023, selected for Tiger Shorts Competition IFFR), and for the 2024 edition
of “Field Recordings,” we will commission a sound piece
by Anna Khvyl, a Ukrainian composer and artist based in Den Haag. The commission will be a site specific audio walk, incorporating field recordings, musical compositions, and listening exercises.
