Marion Scemama - Shorts
This programme brings together short films by Marion Scemama and her collaborative works with David Wojnarowicz. From the hybrid fiction Relax Be Cruel, which invites us into the underground New York art and queer scene of the 1980s, to the diaristic Summer 89, filmed just six years later in a world profoundly transformed by the AIDS epidemic, the programme traces a period of dramatic change. Alongside these, a series of short films—performance to video works and documentation of Wojnarowicz’s spoken-word performances—provides insight into a life confronting death and state inaction driven by homophobia.

Marion Scemama’s films are presented with newly commissioned captions for the d/Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing designed by Carefuffle, a disabled and queer-led working group.
