Youth work actions were an integral part of socialist Yugoslavia and contributed significantly to the country’s development. Newsreel 242 – Sunny Railways is a tribute to thousands of young leftists who helped build the Šamac–Sarajevo railway in 1947. During the wars of the 1990s, the railway was damaged, and the last train from Šamac to Sarajevo completed its journey in 2011. Newsreel 242 is a film essay that brings this history into a contemporary context — today, the railway is often used as a route toward a promised future for people on the move. This film is part of Autor’s series of works that explore the mediatisation of national conflicts and the resulting migration flows.
